Indonesia, the most populous country in Southeast Asia, has topped the region in terms of confirmed cases and fatalities.
Since Indonesia’s first cases were detected in early March, it has recorded a steady increase, reaching an average of about
6,000 new cases daily over the past week. On December 3, the country confirmed a record 8,369 new cases. On December
11, Indonesia reached more than 600,000 cumulative COVID-19 cases. The Health Ministry reported 6,189 new confirmed
COVID-19 cases on Sunday (December 13), bringing the total number of cases nationwide to 617,820. According to data
released by the ministry on Sunday, 166 more people have died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 18,819.
Myanmar government has further extended the country’s COVID-19 preventive measures until the end of the year as the
country has reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 cumulative cases. The country’s capital, Yangon, remains the highest
region with the highest number of COVID-19 cases. Yangon has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases with an average
of more than 700 new cases in the past week. As of December 13, Myanmar has reported a total of 108,342 COVID-19 cases
in the country.
