Global Updates

• Worldwide, over 695 million cases and over 6 million deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.

• The Netherlands: Report for the week of September 18 to 24, 2023, indicates a notable 14% increase in the national average viral load, as determined by sewage surveillance, compared to the previous week (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, 2023). During the same period, the Infection Radar survey reported a slight uptick in the percentage of participants exhibiting possible COVID-19 symptoms, rising from 3.0% to 3.2% when contrasted with the preceding week. Furthermore, there was a modest 9% rise in the daily average hospital admissions of patients with SARS-CoV-2. Since July, a consistent upward trend has been evident across multiple COVID-19 metrics, encompassing viral load in sewage, the proportion of Infection Radar survey participants with relevant symptoms or positive test results, and hospital admissions.
