Global Updates

• Worldwide, over 695 million cases and over 6 million deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.

• India has reported 97 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, with an active caseload of 537 (Santosh, 2023). The total death toll in the country is 532,028. India's cumulative COVID-19 cases have reached 449,979,917, with a national recovery rate of 98.81 percent. The current case fatality rate is 1.18 percent. India has administered 2,206,700,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses as part of its vaccination efforts [Full article]

• Israel: The Israeli Health Ministry has advised at-risk individuals to wear masks during the High Holidays, as the BA.2.86 variant, which evades immunity from previous infections, accounts for a significant number of current diagnoses (JNS, 2023). The ministry also advised mask-wearing and isolation for high-risk groups. The ministry has instructed hospitals to test new admissions for COVID-19 amid the spread of the variant. High-risk groups, including the elderly, pregnant, obese, and those with pre-existing health conditions, are more vulnerable. [Full article]
