On May 17, 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the Ebola disease outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus (BDBV) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations (2005).
