Global Updates • Worldwide, over 696 million cases and over 6 million deaths have been attributed to COVID-19. • Hong Kong (SAR): The recent death of a 20-month-old child who contracted COVID-19 underlines the need for parents to get their children vaccinated (RTHK, 2023). Experts, including Lau Yu-lung, a University of Hong Kong pediatrics professor, and Patrick Ip, an HKU pediatrician, emphasized the importance of vaccination. They said that complications from COVID-19 are more common in children without immune protection and who haven't been vaccinated. They also noted that up to October 15th, only 30% of Hong Kong's young children have received one or two doses of Covid vaccination.
