Global Update
• Worldwide, there have been over 264 million cases and over 5 million deaths attributed to COVID-19.
• As of December 2 (4 pm EST), a total of 366 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) reported across 34 countries. Cases have been identified among travellers from the following countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Peru, Namibia, Nigeria, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Malawi, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States, Qatar, and Sweden. If no other indications exist, it may be reasonable to assume that community transmission is occurring in these locations. Canada has also been identified as a location of origin, however, it is uncertain if the person contracted the virus in Canada. Cases of the Omicron variant have been reported for the first time today in France, India, Greece, Iceland, Finland, and the United Arab Emirates. Additional cases were also reported in Belgium, Denmark, Australia, Norway, the United States, Spain, Sweden, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Austria.
