Time Period Covered August 28, 2020 - August 28, 2020
Worldwide, there have been over 24.5 million cases and more than 833,000
deaths attributed to COVID-19.
The Jakarta administration is extending the transitional period of large-scale
social restrictions (PSBB) for another 14 days, beginning today (August 28) to
September 10 as it continues to struggle to control COVID-19 transmission. The
extension was the fifth after the capital first extended the PSBB from June 4 to
July 16, dubbing it a "transitional" phase that would go along with the gradual
reopening of the economy. Jakarta recorded on Thursday an addition of 760
positive cases, bringing the total to 36,213 confirmed cases. Indonesia
recorded 162,884 positive cases with more than 7,000 deaths as of Thursday
(August 27) after seeing an all-time-high daily increase of 2,719 positive cases.
On August 27, Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has set up a Safe
Travel Office (STO) to ensure an easier and smoother traveller experience with
the gradual reopening of borders. This comes as Singapore sees stable local
community transmission of COVID-19 and embarks on various travel schemes
with other countries. Singapore has reciprocal travel arrangements with
Malaysia and China, with plans for similar schemes with Japan and Thailand.
The Government also announced last August 21 that it will ease restrictions for
travellers from several countries including Brunei and New Zealand.
