Worldwide, there have been over 100.6 million cases and more than 2.16 million deaths attributed to COVID-19. • Indonesia surpassed 1 million COVID-19 cases on Tuesday (January 26). The country reported 13,094 new cases on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 1,012,350, the country's COVID-19 taskforce said. • The Philippines has confirmed local transmission of the new, highly contagious British variant of the coronavirus B117. The Philippine health ministry said the B117 variant had spread among 12 people in Bontoc, a mountainous northern province, with 17 such cases in the country. Its first case of the British variant was found in a Filipino who had travelled from the United Arab Emirates. • Breaking Thailand’s record for highest daily spike in coronavirus cases, 959 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday (January 26) in the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) daily briefing. Thailand now has 3,679 active cases. Since the start of the pandemic, Thailand has reported a total of 14,646 cases and 75 coronavirus-related deaths. The majority of new cases were found in proactive case finding in Samut Sakhon, which has been increased to test 60,000 people in the province this week. 848 of the 959 new cases were detected proactive testing, most in Samut Sakhon and only 4 in Bangkok.
