COVID-19: Highlights and Situation Overview

• Worldwide, there have been over 59.9 million cases and more than 1.4 million deaths attributed to COVID-19.

• Indonesia’s confirmed COVID-19 case number has exceeded 500,000 as the country continues to endure the strain of the

coronavirus pandemic, nearly nine months since it reported the first infections in March. The national COVID-19 task force

reported 4,192 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 506,302 cases -- the highest among

Southeast Asian countries. Jakarta remains the national epicenter in the country with a total of 129,188 COVID-19 cases

reported. The Jakarta administration announced that it would extend the transitional period of the large-scale social

restrictions (PSBB) for another two weeks until December 6 amid a recent surge of new COVID-19 cases and following a

number mass gatherings that led to widespread violations of health protocols.

• The last COVID-19 cluster in a migrant worker dormitory has closed, meaning there are no active clusters in Singapore since

the pandemic began. The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced the closure of the cluster at Cassia Penjuru dormitory on

Tuesday (November 24), after 28 consecutive days with no new infection linked to it. With the closure of this cluster, MOH said,

there are no active COVID-19 clusters for the first time since February 3, 2020.

• Malaysia on Tuesday (November 24) reported a record 2,188 new COVID-19 cases, with the state of Selangor accounting for

the majority of the infections. This is the first time Malaysia has registered more than 2,000 daily infections, taking the cumulative

total to 58,847. According to the health ministry in a press release, a total of 14,353 of these cases are classified as active and

contagious. All of the new cases are locally transmitted infections, with 1,623 in Selangor accounting for 74.2% of all the new

cases
