  • Worldwide, there have been over 14.9 million cases, and over 614,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19. Recently, a phase 1 vaccine trial based in the United Kingdom was recently published in The Lancet which demonstrated induced immune reaction with an acceptable safety profile among study participants. The authors stated that the results were promising and large-scale evaluation in an ongoing phase 3 trial would provide more information about how well the candidate performs in various populations. This is the second COVID-19 vaccine candidate study with published results in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
  • Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 with the national tally of cases standing at 141 as of July 15. Today marks the 76th consecutive day without new cases since May 7.
  • Laos reported no new cases of COVID-19 with the national tally of cases standing at 19 as of July 15. Today marks the 101st consecutive day without new cases since April 12.
  • The Philippines authorities said on Tuesday (July 21) that it would ramp up testing for COVID-19 amid a sharp rise in infections and deaths since the lockdown was eased in June. The government aimed to test 32,000 to 40,000 people a day compared with the current 20,000 to 23,000. In Southeast Asia, the Philippines ranks second to Indonesia in terms of the number of infections and deaths. As of July 21, Philippines reported a total of 70,764 COVID-19 cases and 1,837 deaths.
