Indonesian government has increased the deployment of police and military
personnel to improve compliance with health protocols as the nation struggles
to control the rising number of COVID-19 cases and deaths. According to
Indonesian authorities on September 21, Indonesian Military and National
Police were joining forces to maintain higher compliance with the current
health protocols to curb COVID-19 transmission. The Health Ministry reported
3,989 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday (September 20), bringing the
total number of cases to 244,676.
Myanmar announced a stay-home order for its biggest city Yangon after
reporting a record daily increase in new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday
(September 20). The order in Yangon, Myanmar's commercial capital, comes
into effect today (September 21) and will require all employees to work from
home. The health ministry said on Sunday it had recorded 671 new coronavirus
cases, without saying where. Most of the recent new infections have been in
Yangon. The country has reported a total of 5,541 COVID-19 cases and 92
deaths. Infections have increased to hundreds of new cases per day over the
past weeks after COVID-19 reappeared in the western state of Rakhine,
following weeks without a confirmed local case.
