  • The WHO COVID-19 Incident Management Team is working closely with partners across all levels to provide support to countries, strengthen technical and operational networking and collaboration, and support operational coordination of the global response. The core elements of health operations include clinical care and management, laboratory capacity strengthening, surveillance, case and contact tracing, infection prevention and control, risk communications and community engagement. These core elements are supported by technical networks worldwide, which draw on and support capacities in GOARN, GHC, and EMTs. In the area of risk communications and community engagement, IFRC, UNICEF and WHO have established a dedicated tripartite group to scale up and implement activities globally.
  • Thailand's government has enacted stronger measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus, including postponing the country's biggest holiday, shutting down schools and closing bars. These include: a)postponing Songkran — the annual three-day traditional New Year's holiday in April; b) all public and private educational institutions will be closed starting Wednesday (March 18)until further notice; c) gathering places such as bars, karaoke parlors, movie theaters, gymnasiums, boxing stadiums and other sports venues will be subject to closure as ordered by provincial governors. Such venues in Bangkok will also close for two weeks beginning March 18; d) closing of restaurants and malls in Bangkok will be at the discretion of its governor. Meanwhile, restaurants are required to implement strict disinfection procedures and health safety measures.
  • On late of March 16, Philippines’ President put the entire Philippine island of Luzon under an "enhanced community quarantine" until April 12 to stop the spread of COVID-19, effective midnight Tuesday (April 17, 2020). Under an enhanced community quarantine, strict home quarantine shall be implemented in all households, transportation shall be suspended, provision of food and essential services shall be regulated, and heightened presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures will be implemented.
