  • Worldwide, there have been over 26.3 million cases and more than 870,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
  • The Jakarta (Indonesia) administration is set to issue a policy that will require COVID-19 patients in the capital to be quarantined at coronavirus referral centers, including the emergency hospital at the Kemayoran former athletes village in Central Jakarta. Under the new regulation, self-quarantine will no longer be an option for COVID-19 patients regardless of whether or not they exhibit coronavirus symptoms. Cases with medium or heavy symptoms would be required to check into hospitals, whereas those with light symptoms or no symptoms at all would be isolated at the athletes village. According to the governor, the regulation is a response to the lack of discipline among individuals on self-quarantine but occasionally failed to abide the existing health protocols.
  • Indonesia on Thursday (September 3) reported 3,622 new COVID019 cases, a record high in daily cases, and 134 more deaths. It is the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 22. In addition, Indonesia is reportedly among the countries with the highest COVID-19 death rate among children, surpassing the United States. KawalCOVID-19, a volunteer group that independently records virus case numbers and deaths in Indonesia, recorded a case fatality rate (CFR) among children, or people aged 17 years and younger, was currently at 0.9 percent, or 45 times higher than in the United States, which was at 0.02 percent. In a separate statement issued on Monday (August 31), the Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) noted that the country’s rate was higher than the rates in China and Italy, each of which stood below 0.1%, as well as Europe, where the rate was 0.3%. It was stated that the percentage of child deaths per total COVID-19 deaths is also high in Indonesia.
