Worldwide, there have been more than 10.8 million cases, and over 520,000
deaths attributed to COVID-19. The World Health Organization has warned that
the Eastern Mediterranean region, which includes the Middle East, is at a
“critical threshold” as the number of confirmed cases continues to rise. The
pandemic is also picking up speed in Africa with over 400,000 total cases and
10,000 deaths reported within the continent.
World Health Organization (WHO) has updated the interim guidance on
infection prevention and control during healthcare when coronavirus disease
(COVID-19) is suspected or confirmed. This is the third edition of the guidance
and expands the scope and structure of earlier guidance, bringing together
other interim recommendations as well as considerations and advice from
subject matter experts. This guidance is intended for health workers, including
healthcare managers and IPC teams at the facility level, but it is also relevant
for the national and district/provincial levels.
Jakarta Governor has announced that the capital is extending its transitional
COVID-19 mobility restrictions by 14 days and tightening supervision of
traditional markets and train services. The city administration had decided to
keep its large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) in place until July 15 after reviewing
the situation of the pandemic in the capital with the COVID-19 task force. As
