Worldwide, there have been over 18 million reported cases, and more than
690,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19. Today the Philippines has surpassed
100,000 cumulative COVID-19 cases, while South Africa has confirmed over a
million COVID-19 cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised
concerns regarding a number of countries experiencing new outbreaks after
easing restrictions, including Australia, China, France, India, Israel, Mexico,
Philippines, South Africa, and Spain.
WHO has published a COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Progress Report.
The report highlights the progress made from 1 February to 30 June 2020 under
the three objectives outlined in the Strategic Response and Reparedness Plan:
scaling up international coordination and support, scaling up country
preparedness and response by pillar and accelerating research and
innovation. The report also discusses some of the key challenges faced, and
provides an update on the resource requirements for the next phase of WHO’s
response.
Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 for 88 consecutive days as of
Sunday (August 1) with cases remaining at 141.
