COVID-19: Highlights and Situation Overview
• Worldwide, there have been over 64 million cases and more than 1.48 million deaths attributed to COVID-19.
• 5,092 new cases were reported in Indonesia. The country confirmed 6,267 cases on November 29, representing a record-high
number of cases reported within a 24-hour period since the beginning of the outbreak. The test positivity rate in the past 14
days stands at 13%, suggesting a growing epidemic and indicating that the true extent of virus spread may be under-
detected. Four provinces, including Jakarta, East Java, West Java, and Central Java account for more than 50% of the
cumulative cases in the country. In the past month, Jakarta and East Java have seen fluctuating numbers of daily new cases,
while West Java and Central Java are experiencing significant surges. The Jakarta Provincial Government has extended the
Large-Scale Social Restrictions transition for another two weeks until December 6. The average bed occupancy rate has
increased from 56% as of November 9 to 73% as of November 23 across 98 Jakarta treatment centers. The local government
in Jakarta says that the current infection rate is still not sufficiently controlled to lift the semi-lockdown, despite a recent
stabilization in trends.
• Vietnam reported two more coronavirus cases on Tuesday (December 1) linked to a rare domestic infection in its commercial
hub Ho Chi Minh City, while the government urged public vigilance and tighter enforcement of health measures. The country
is now back on high alert after confirming on Monday the country's first community infection in 89 days, prompting the closure
of several places in the densely-populated southern city. The community case, a 32-year-old man, tested positive after visiting
a flight attendant who was undergoing self-quarantine at his home following his return from Japan two weeks ago. The flight
attendant tested positive on Saturday.
• Philippines’ President said in a late-night press on Monday (November 30) that partial coronavirus restrictions will remain in the
capital region until the end of the year, with the government urging Filipinos to limit Christmas gatherings to prevent a post-
holiday surge in COVID-19 cases.
