● Ethiopia: The number of mpox cases in Ethiopia has reached 18, with 12 new cases reported in the past two days, according to the Ministry of Health (Xinhua & Huaxia, 2025). The country has recorded one death, two recoveries, and currently has 15 active cases in isolation. The first case was reported on May 25 in a 21-day-old infant in Moyale near the Kenyan border. In response, health authorities have intensified monitoring and inspection measures to prevent further spread, especially in southern Ethiopia near the Somalia border. [Full article]
● Ghana reported 34 new mpox cases on Tuesday, bringing the total to 79, with no deaths recorded so far (Xinhua, 2025). The Ghana Health Service attributed the rise to enhanced surveillance, including contact tracing and rapid case detection. Authorities are urging the public to maintain good hygiene and avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals. Mpox is a rare viral disease spread through body fluids, droplets, and contaminated materials. [Full article]
