This report is based on media monitoring of infectious and emerging diseases globally and within ASEAN Member States. To enhance pandemic and epidemic preparedness and response in the ASEAN Region, we publish this report three times a week. Global Situation Mpox
● Brazil: The Health Department of Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais reported two suspected cases of mpox cases in children on June 6, 2025 (CBN, 2025). The children are under home quarantine, and diagnostic samples have been sent to the Ezequiel Dias Foundation for confirmation. Health authorities are closely monitoring the cases and providing guidance to families and schools. There is no evidence of community transmission. There is no isolation recommendation for asymptomatic individuals. [Full article]
● Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health and National Public Health Agency reported 45 new mpox cases on June 7, 2025, bringing the total confirmed cases to 3,782 since the outbreak began in January (Sierraloaded, 2025). The Western Area, including Freetown and Rural, remains the epicenter with nearly 80% of cases and 20 deaths. Authorities have intensified their response by securing vaccines from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), deploying surveillance teams, opening treatment centers, and launching public awareness campaigns.
